Camera Setup for Master-Slave Robotic Arms: How Many Cameras for 3D Positioning?

  • As a beginner, I have a question: For a master-slave robotic arm setup, how many cameras are needed? Is one sufficient? Is the camera intended for 3D spatial positioning? If two cameras are required, where should they be placed – in front of and above the slave arm, or in front of the slave arm and on its end-effector gripper? Can a single camera (limited to 2D space) achieve 3D positioning?

  • 3D spatial localization requires dual-camera configurations to resolve XYZ coordinates (two cameras for XY and Z axes respectively). Monocular approaches can estimate depth (Z-axis) when supplemented with focus measurement data.
